“I love seeing those “ah-ha” moments when students make connections. They get so excited that we get excited along with them and share that pride.”
8 a.m. Students come in, put their backpacks in their cubbies and then have free choice time. We have a sensory table, Play-Doh, light table and all kinds of toys and baskets.
8:45 a.m. We gather for circle time where we review the calendar—day and date—and talk about our focuses for the week. This week is the color orange, the number 1, and shapes.
9:15 a.m. Music time!
10 a.m. We read a story and then do a lesson in color mixing so students can discover what happens when you mix different colors.
1 p.m. It’s rest time—time for students to get their mats out and rest their bodies. Some of them sleep; others will look at books.
2 p.m. More outside playtime! The kids discovered a grasshopper on the playground, which they were very curious about. When we came in, we made a list of questions we had about grasshoppers. What do they eat? Where do they live? Do they sleep? We’ll go to the library later this week to see if we can find books about grasshoppers.
5 p.m. Pickup time for Extended Day students. It’s been a fun-filled day.
